“EURASIAN AGE”: THE EAEU’S EXTERNAL CIRCUT”

On November 11, within the framework of the II Eurasian Analytical Forum 2021, the Eurasian National University and IAC “Eurasia – Volga Region” organized an international round table on the topic: “The Eurasian Age. External Circuit of the EAEU ” Well-Known experts discussed the principles of development of international cooperation and the prospects for expanding the membership of the Eurasian Economic Union, the creation of new Free Trade Zones and the complexity and prospects for the development of the Greater Eurasian Partnership.
The event was attended by representatives of leading Kazakh, Russian and foreign scientific and educational institutions, as well as researchers from Russia, Kazakhstan, Argentina, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Pakistan, India, China and Turkey.

Head of the Department of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan of the Eurasian National University, Prof. Kalashnikova Natalya Pavlovna presented a detailed analysis of the role of public diplomacy, its importance in integration processes in the vastness of Greater Eurasia, and also highlighted Kazakhstani trends. The professor presented scenarios and plots of the development of integration processes in the macro-region.
Director of the Center for Eurasian Media Studies, Faculty of Journalism, Moscow State University Lomonosova Olga Vikhrova made a presentation on “The image of the EAEU in foreign media and international cooperation.”
Professor of the Department of World Politics at St. Petersburg State University Maria Lagutina presented a report on the topic “The EU and the EAEU: Prospects for the Development of Relationships.”
Pakistani political analyst, Founder of the Eurasian Century Institute – the only think-tank in Pakistan dedicated solely to study Eurasian Afairs – Muhhammad Irfan Shahzad Takalvi, described Pakistani understanding of integration in Greater Eurasia, as well as the prospects for cooperation of the Islamic republic with the EAEU and SCO member states. He highlighted that Pakistan was becoming a gateway for the Eurasian supercontinent. Irfan also dwelled on some of the potential difficulties in closer cooperation between Pakistan and Eurasian Union, notably nature, rather lack of, Pak-Armenia relations, but noted that these may be overcome easily.

The founder of the International Institute for Eurasian Studies, Punit Gaur, presented the Indian perspective for the development of relations between the EAEU and India in the light of the free trade agreement initiated by the Russian Federation. The Indian expert emphasized cordial and friendly nature of bilateral relations with each of the EAEU member states. Punit Gaur also noted the unique role of Kazakhstan and the First President of the country, Nursultan Nazarbayev, in creation of the EAEU. The Indian scientist is especially proud of his personal belonging to ENU, where he has been working as a visiting professor for fifth year now.
Iranian scientist and journalist, editor-in-chief of Russia Today Ahmad Vakhshiteh stressed the importance of cooperation with the EAEU for the Islamic Republic of Iran. The Free Trade Agreement undoubtedly strengthens this cooperation. Iran has always considered Russia as its important economic partner, the states of Central Asia and the Caucasus (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia) also occupy a special position in Iran’s foreign economic concept.
Professor from Fakir Mohan University, Ramakrushna Pradhan described in detail the prospects for energy cooperation in the macro-region of Greater Eurasia, presented an analysis of the difficulties of working and building transport and energy corridors. Mr. Pradhan also noted that his university is the southernmost in location, a university where young specialists are professionally trained for cooperation with the EAEU.
Director of the ENU Confucius Institute from the Chinese side, Yang Lei, gave a detailed analysis of the bilateral and multilateral relations of the People’s Republic of China both with the EAEU member states and with each of the participants. The scientist quoted Deng Xiaoping’s famous expression that “it doesn’t matter what color the cat is, the most important thing is that he catches mice,” this refers to the fact that China is ready to pragmatically build relations with its neighbors and partners.
The speakers also paid special attention to the problem of education. The president of the Center for Eurasian and Middle Eastern Studies, professor at the Catholic University of Cordoba (Parana, Argentina) Paulo Bota shared his research as part of a speech on the work of intellectual and university centers in Eurasia and Latin America.
The moderators of the round table were Akbota Zholdasbekova, Professor of the Department of Regional Studies, Gumilyov Eurasian National University, and Marina Lapenko, Director of the Eurasia-Volga Region Information and Analytical Center.
The Eurasian Analytical Forum, the purpose of which is to analyze threats, challenges and risks, as well as to develop recommendations for the comprehensive development of the potential of Eurasia as a subject of civilizational dynamics, is held in Minsk from November 9 to 19, 2021. The main objectives of the event series include:
• Forecasting changes in the world civilizational dynamics in the Eurasian space for the short and medium term;
• Analyzing the system of values of international cooperation in the EAEU and Eurasia, which contribute to successful development in an environment of existing external threats and challenges;

• Systematic assessment of the state of threats, challenges and risks to the development and security of the EAEU countries and other Eurasian states;

• Analysis of the problems of goal-setting in the development of the EAEU – how to find a common vector in the development of an economic union within the framework of Greater Eurasia;

• Analysis of contradictions and search for points of joint growth of the EAEU member states in the Eurasian space; analytics of the interaction mechanisms of the EIAC expert and analytical community, which make it possible to effectively identify and respond to emerging threats and challenges.
The forum is supported by the Eurasian Economic Commission, the Security Council of the Republic of Belarus, Rossotrudnichestvo, the Federation of Trade Unions of the Republic of Belarus, and the Eurasian Development Bank. Among the organizers: Institute for Scientific Information on Social Sciences RAS, Institute of Economics RAS, Eurasian National University, Federal Research Sociological Center RAS, Faculty of Global Processes, Lomonosov Moscow State University, Moscow State Institute of International Relations (U) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia (RUDN), Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation.
